Aquinnah

Aquinnah is the far western end of Martha’s Vineyard and the most remote of the six towns. The Gay Head Cliffs — banded red, grey and white clay, a National Natural Landmark — drop to the beach below the Gay Head Light, and much of the land around them is held by the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), whose community has been here for thousands of years. Homes for sale are few and widely spaced, on moorland and along Moshup Trail, many with unbroken water views over the Atlantic or Vineyard Sound. There is almost no commerce — a cluster of shops at the Cliffs, open in season, and that is all. Buyers come to Aquinnah for the quiet, the light, and the distance from everything else.
